Overview

In-8. Pp. 69, [1] r.e.

Published in Genoa, this work addresses the scarcity of information on Ligurian vines and engages with the efforts of a commission dedicated to producing a much-needed ampelography.

Inside the book

The author seeks to elevate cépage selection from random proximity to a scientific practice, and to encourage viticulture in a region traditionally focused on olive cultivation.
He acknowledges ongoing quality issues and advises against adopting intensive cultivation methods such as those in Hérault. The text discusses Erbaluce, Vermentino, Timorasso, Brachetto, Rossese, and other varieties from Nice to Luni. Barbarossa, mentioned here, is now being revived in Corsica. The book also includes Isabella, the American grape.

Condition

Original green paper binding, with abbreviated title on the front cover. Next to the author’s name appears a manuscript note, presumably in his own hand: ‘Alla Nobilissima Donna La Signora Contessa Ernesta Napollon Margarita (?) con tante scuse e tantissima stima. 30 Luglio 1879’. In excellent condition.

Dimensions (inches): 8.5 x 6

Why La Fenice likes it
